Leo – Leo is a young at heart, middle aged boy (born 4/16/2001) who was owner surrendered to the Dorothy O’Connor animal shelter in Victoria, Texas. He is currently high positive for heartworms and will be treated for them in a less aggressive manner over a longer period of time, to better increase his odds of survival. When he was surrendered, he was severely matted and has been fed a diet of corn cobs and people food. Leo has not had the easiest of lives to this point- he is hand shy when you reach for his face, but his foster Mom makes it a point to touch his face and give him lots of kisses on the head in an effort to teach him that there will be no more bad touches.

His house manners are vastly improved –there is still an occasional little puddle, but Leo learned quickly to ask to be let out and he goes out, takes care of business, then returns to a comfy spot on the couch or a dog bed. He is eager to please and wants desperately to be someone’s snuggle buddy. He gets along well with other dogs, seems to like small children but could be intimidated by a dominant alpha male human. Initially, at feeding time, Leo would stick his head in each dog’s bowl and start eating their food, but has learned to sit by his bowl and wait, assured there is enough food for him at each meal. He is still a little "grabby" with treats, and if given the chance, will help himself to people food within his reach, but we are working on these less desirable traits.

Leo has a very sweet and forgiving nature – he may be hesitant when reached for, but his tail wags constantly and he will paw his foster parents or head butt them when he feels he isn’t getting enough attention. His foster parents are also teaching him to "sing" with the rest of their dogs and Leo seems to really enjoy this! This is one super nice boy and he’s looking for his new forever best friend.

These 3 dogs were left behind when their owner passed away in April. Rescue was contacted at the end of August and the details of their care in the interim time is sketchy. All 3 were living outside in makeshift pens and one dog had no shelter from the elements. All 3 dogs are severely malnourished, have eye and ear infections and all 3 had maggots in their fur from living in their own waste. Needless to say, all were matted to the skin and needed to be shaved down. All 3 are heartworm positive and in too poor of physical condition to undergo treatment just yet. They are being fostered until such time as treatment and spay/neuter surgery can be done. We are trying to raise money for the care of these dogs by selling their former owner’s afghan collectibles, trophies and memorabilia on ebay. You can find these items under ebay seller name Meowsicat.

The male is named Marquis – he is a black masked red and is 9.5 years old. He was penned with the black and white female, Augusta. Marquis crates easily and is a quiet easygoing boy. He was all growls and teeth when we rescued him, but the tail never stopped wagging. Marquis was cooperative on the leash and may have been shown in his earlier life. He will need a loving home where he can be an indoor couch potato with maybe another dog or a cat for company.
