Rescue Stories

A Very Special Home by Sandy Blount

Afghan Hound Rescue of Southern California was very overcrowded. We received a call from a woman who was pregnant, and needed to place her afghan hound before the baby was born, as Beauregard was not good with children. We agreed to help place him.

I had received a few e-mails from an interesting couple in Switzerland, who had recently lost Timi, their beloved afghan companion. They were planning a trip to the U.S., and wanted to help and rescue one of our dogs. We continued to correspond for many months, and finally the trip was planned for March 2002. We finally got to meet Erica and Ernest in person. They were wonderful!!!

They spent several days with us, and also went to meet Beauregard, who was still with his original family. The baby had just been born, and Beauregard need to move. Erica and Ernest fell madly in love with him at first sight!!! They have renamed him Shakonah.

So Shakonah left for Switzerland! He has made many friends, and is Erica and Ernest's treasured companion. If only the rest of us could get this lucky!!!!!
